The Australian skipper has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 appearances with an stellar bowling average.
The Australian chair of selectors Bailey has declared that captain Pat Cummins will play a "major part" in this winter's historic rivalry.
There were concerns that Cummins might be unavailable due to a persistent back stress problem that had not yet healed.
Initial reports from the squad suggested no official announcement had been made regarding his involvement, with the Test matches kicking off on 21 November in the WACA.
The selector shared that his recovery is on track and was "optimistic" about his chances of taking part.
"It's clear that the clock is ticking and multiple considerations around that, not only the back issue, but additional elements," the selector added.
"The outlook is good. We firmly believe that he's going to play a major part. Ideally it's the first Test. Should that not happen, we'll reassess."
Previous Setbacks
He was sidelined the ODI and T20 games against India and New Zealand last month after scans revealed a lumbar bone stress.
There is a track record of recurring issues, with recurrences in multiple past seasons forcing him out of three Australian summers in four years.
Cummins stated he would be bold in recovery efforts in his comeback strategy to secure his spot for the series.
The selector indicated that he did not know if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his comeback but admitted it was "pressing" for him to regain fitness for the initial match.
Contingency Plans
If he's unavailable, former captain Steve Smith will assume leadership.
All-rounder Cameron Green was excluded lately from the ODI lineup for their one-day international series against India as a precautionary measure because of an abdominal issue.
Bailey described it as a "slight concern and confirmed that Green will play in the state-level matches, so will be "ideally positioned to be ready to bowl."
"Extensive planning has gone into developing the strategy for him to be available for the opening match as an batting and bowling option," the selector detailed.
"His involvement was limited to the initial matches regardless. The way he swings the bat in limited-overs, should it hinder progress for 24 more hours, the choice was made to approach this more conservatively."
